ScriptGecko.com was created with the intention to provide High Quality and feature packed modifications (MODS) for ASPInvision© iPortal©. ScriptGecko.com created usefull mods with the approval of the owner of ASPInvision. After several months it became apparent to SG that the owner of ASPInvision© was not providing adequate support for their product. Being a professional programmer, SG began assisting people with all their support issues. More and more the users of the product would come to SG instead of the standard support site for assistance. ScriptGecko.com member and fan-base grew rapidly. More members were brough into the support team.
At one point, ASPInvision© was concerned that the popular MODs being downloaded may contain too much of their copyrighted code. So SG, in conjunction with ASPInvision© created a pass-through login that required people to log into the download area and verify that they were a customer of ASPInvision©.
The popularity of SG grew again. This time people were purchasing the Portal just because of the MODs written for it by SG. It is our beleif that this is what triggered the jealosy. ASPInvision© began attacking people who were writing support files, creating graphics and yes, creating MODs for their product. At some point the pass-through verification was shutdown causing a false positive return, thus allowing anyone to access the download area. ASPInvision© blamed SG for this, even though they removed the pass-through password checker file without informing us.
As if this was not enough, it was brought to our attention that the owner of ASPInvision© was accessing SG's PRIVATE forums. This resulted in us checking our file logs to verify this, and it was true. The owner of ASPInvision© was using an unannounced security flaw in their Portal Software, to access Private forums on their customers site. Once this major security violation was annouced people started asking the owner of ASPInvision© why they did that. After dancing around the truth, they finally admitted that they did do it. Their reason was that they "beleived" we were using his code illegally, when in fact we were not. The forums he accessed were discussion Theory of operation, and planning for a new product and contained no code from his product. It was time to cut him lose.
Great strives forward in history often come from negative events. Enter SOOP© Portal. SOOP© Portal, a competitor of ASPInvision© welcomed the SG community with open arms. SOOP© had it's own history with ASPInvision© such as the accusations of stolen code, all the way to the alleged domain name theft.
Together SOOP© and SG created an alliance to provide a peaceful and helpful community for people who wish to launch a portal site of their own.
